Governor’s Message

As an important economy in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta, Anhui Province is positioned as the east frontier of central China, with easy access to rivers and seas transportation. The high speed traffic network of highways, railways and air lines connects Anhui with outside in every direction. Anhui is the frontier to receive the westward transfer of domestic and overseas investment and industries. It plays a significant role in China’s regional economic development.

Anhui enjoys beautiful sceneries and a galaxy of talents. There are famous places of interest such as Mt. Huangshan, which has been inscribed as the world natural & cultural heritage sites, and Mt. Jiuhua, which is the Buddhist sacred land. Here is the cradle of the time-honored Huaihe civilization and the awe-inspiring Hui culture, as well as an excellent destination for travel, relaxation and cultivation of temperament.

Anhui is not only the state key production base for agricultural products and raw materials of energy, but also growing to be an industrial base for new equipment manufacturing and high technology. Here is an array of well-known companies, including the China’s biggest cooper producer Tongling Non-ferrous Metals (Group) Corporation, the world third largest and Asian No. 1 cement manufacturer Conch Group, and one of China’s top six steel maker Masteel Group, etc. The newly-rising industries of automobile, engineering machinery, electronic information and biological energy have been growing with distinctive features and competitiveness. Apart from being China’s biggest exporter of local branded cars by Chery Company, Anhui takes the largest domestic market shares for forklift trucks, excavators and other engineering machinery products. More than that, Anhui has long been known for its substantial resources in education and technology, with location of 97 higher colleges and universities including University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and 158 scientific research institutes including Hefei Institutes of Physical Science Chinese Academy of Sciences.

On the basis of geographical advantages, abundant resources and industrial foundations, Anhui has shown increasing vitality in growth and accelerated pace in opening-up. In terms of total foreign trade, Anhui has been leading China’s central and west regions for years. At present, Anhui has established economic and trade relations with more than 200 countries and regions in the world, and seen a total of more than 7700 foreign-invested companies incorporated including operations by some 40 world top 500 companies like Siemens, Hitachi, Unilever and so on. Overseas investors have been increasingly convinced that Anhui is a most attractive place for investment.

Anhui is ready to enter into a new era. We will take the Philosophy of Scientific Development as our guiding principle, and earnestly put into practice the important spirits of the Seventeenth National CPC Congress and the keynote address by general secretary Mr. Hu Jintao during his inspection in Anhui. With seeking leap-forward development, faster booming up and a harmonious society of Anhui as the primary goals, we will further implement the strategies of industrial development, eastward development, innovative promotion, central city-driven growth, and sustainable development. Anhui will play an active role in the coordinated development of the Pan Yangtze River Delta area, accelerate integration into economic globalization and achieve a fast and steady economic and social development.
